I get a lot of questions on what software I used to create the Lego movies. So here’s a short list of the software I use.

Autodesk 3ds max 2009

I use 3ds max to create all of the 3d models in the movies, that’s all the minifigs, spaceships, planets, landscapes, walls, floors, etc. All the animation is done in 3ds max as well as some of the special effects (smoke, sparks, lasers).

Cebas Final Render 2.0

When all the modeling is done, the images still need to be rendered. For that I use final Render. It’s fast, has great materials and includes some excellent plugins (like finalDOF and finalToon).

Adobe Photoshop CS4

Photoshop is used to do all the texturing of the 3d models.

Adobe After Effects CS4

I use After Effect for most of the post production work (lens flares, dust) and the compositing of the shots.

Adobe Premiere CS4

To put all the scenes together and to make the titles, Premiere is used.

Adobe Soundbooth CS4

Soundbooth is used to sync the music and put in all the sound effects.
